I do not choose to be a common person.

It is my right to be uncommon—if I can.

I seek opportunity—not security.

I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having the state look after me.

I want to take the calculated risk, to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed.

I refuse to barter incentive for a dole; I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of Utopia.

I will not trade my freedom for beneficence, nor my dignity for a handout.

I will never cower before any master, nor bend to any threat.

It is my heritage to stand erect, proud, and unafraid; to think and act for myself; to enjoy the benefit of my creations; and to face the world boldly and say: "This, with God's help, I have done."

“美国企业家宣言(Entrepreneur's Credo of the American)”由美国政治家Dean Alfange所写的一篇励志短文修改而来。1904年美国《企业家杂志》创刊时用此文作发刊词。此后百余年中，沧海桑田，物是人非，但杂志扉页上的这段话，从来没有改变，已经成为《企业家》的信条，激励着千千万万 “普通美国人”冒险、梦想、创造、失败、成功。有的倾其所有、终其一生，结果是“乌托邦式平平谈谈”；有些白手起家、轰轰烈烈，结果“在上帝的帮助下”选择成为“杰出美国人”—石油大王洛克·菲勒、旅业翘楚唐拉德·尼科逊·希尔顿、化学骄子皮艾尔·杜邦、钢铁巨人安德鲁·卡内基、铁路大亨科尼利尔斯·范德比尔特、娱乐王国沃尔特·迪斯尼、华尔街大佬摩根、农民儿子亨利·福特、肯德基创始人哈兰·山德士上校、超市大鳄山姆·沃尔顿、电脑神童比尔·盖茨、股神沃伦·巴菲特……无一例外。
